True Strength

Men. Traditionally, they have been viewed as embodiments of strength, power, authority, leadership, control, and command. Throughout history, societal norms have perpetuated the idea that men must adhere to a rigid standard of masculinity, often reinforced by phrases like “Big boys don't cry” or “Be a big boy, don’t cry.” These sayings, while perhaps well-intentioned, can have detrimental effects on the emotional development of boys and men. First and foremost, it is crucial to recognize the impact of our words; they carry more weight than many realize. Encouraging emotional suppression can lead to a host of issues, including mental health struggles and relational difficulties. Secondly, true strength does not equate to emotional stoicism. It does not mean that one must be closed off from feelings or incapable of expressing love. In fact, the reality is quite the opposite; real strength is often found in vulnerability and openness.

Consider the example set by Jesus. Throughout His life, He exhibited a wide range of emotions. He wept at the loss of friends, showed compassion to those in need, and cried out in anguish. His ability to express love and empathy is a testament to His profound strength. Do you question His strength? Do you doubt His power or authority? Would anyone dare to label Him as anything less than a “real man”? Of course not! Jesus demonstrated His strength through acts of compassion and healing, offering forgiveness to countless individuals and ultimately conquering death, Hell, and the grave. The qualities that define Jesus—compassion, emotion, love, and the capacity to weep—are often dismissed in men today as signs of weakness. However, these traits should be embraced as authentic reflections of true strength.

The world is in dire need of men who are willing to be genuine and authentic. As men, we are called to embody the principles of real manhood as exemplified by Jesus. This means being unafraid to express our emotions, to cry when necessary, and to openly show love—whether it’s love for a spouse, children, or our Savior. It is time for men to rise up and demonstrate their strength, not through aggression or emotional detachment, but through compassion, love, forgiveness, and heartfelt emotion. By doing so, men will forge a deeper connection with Jesus, one that surpasses their wildest imaginations. This profound connection will not only transform their own lives but will also enrich their marriages, creating stronger, healthier relationships. Imagine the joy on your wife’s face when she sees her husband passionately pursuing Jesus. Her husband, committed to being a role model for their children, will leave a lasting impact that resonates through generations.

Moreover, it is essential to recognize that many men have been misled throughout their lives. They have been conditioned to believe that true strength lies in a leadership style marked by emotional detachment, disengagement, and a lack of passion. This notion is a deception that has been propagated by various influences, including some church leadership. In reality, men are encouraged to express their emotions freely. Let those feelings flow! Speak and lead with an abundance of passion, love, and an unwavering obsession for Jesus! Cultivate a passion for Him that is indescribable, a love that knows no boundaries, and an obsession for His kingdom that shakes the very foundations of Hell! This is the example that Jesus has set before us. He embodied a passion for people and a commitment to helping others, demonstrating a love and compassion that many may never fully comprehend. Our obsession should be for Jesus, for His glory, His kingdom, and a desire to experience more of Him in our lives. We must reach a point where our longing for Him consumes us, where our need for Him is as vital as our next breath. This desire should not only be for our own benefit but for our wives, our children, and our grandchildren, extending through generations.

Today’s prayer

Jesus, we love you! We could never express it enough; we love you deeply! Jesus, we ask that you raise up men who fear the Lord. Raise them to hunger and thirst for you, to be men of integrity, honesty, and fervent passion for you. May they take their rightful place of authority within their households, serving as examples for their children in your name, Jesus. Let them reflect your passion, your love, and your compassion. Ignite a fire within them for you, Jesus! In Your holy name, we pray.

Amen
